His parents were missionaries. In his early years, he traveled extensively with them. James Colson Baker was depressed and unemployed, while Sonia Alane, his mother was divorced from the family when Baker was barely nine years old. After that, Baker and his dad moved to Denver which was where they resided with his father's aunt. Baker received a lot of attention from fellow kids because of his poverty. In sixth grade, he started to take rap music as a form of entertainment. Colson Kelly was born Machine Gun Kelly on April 22, 1989, in Texas. His songs are known for their ability to fuse modern hip-hop and rock and alternative music. Before making the move to Bad Boy Records Baker released four mixtapes between 2007 and the year 2010. With lyrics that were faster than a bullet train the Cleveland rapper saw a rapid increase in fame and recognition in the year 2011. His career changed from self-released cassettes, to being signed to labels. The fame of this Cleveland rapper skyrocketed after he released his first mixtape at the end of 2011.
